Good morning investors! The market fell yesterday after an impressive run.

Today we cover:

  • Impact of government shut downs

  • Oracle in trouble?

  • A look at Tesla

Most gutter guards promise the world but still leave you climbing ladders to clear debris.
LeafGuard takes a completely different approach—instead of adding another layer to your existing gutters, they replace your entire system with a one-piece design that's engineered so debris never gets inside.
The science is pretty straightforward: water follows the curved hood into the gutter using liquid adhesion, while leaves, pine needles, and debris roll right off. No joints mean no leaks, and the aluminum is 20% thicker than standard gutters. With over 650,000 ladder-related injuries happening annually, eliminating gutter maintenance isn't just convenient—it's smart.

Stocks and government shut downs – what history says

Despite concerns about the ongoing government shutdown, historical data suggests the S&P 500 typically rises after such events, with a notable 36% surge in the year following the 2019 shutdown and a 19.7% gain 100 days after the 1982 shutdown. However, outcomes vary, as seen with a 4.5% drop 100 days after the 2018 shutdown.

Currently, the S&P 500 has gained 0.80% from Oct. 1 to Oct. 6, 2025, even hitting new highs.

Experts attribute this resilience to markets focusing on future conditions, like potential Federal Reserve rate cuts, rather than political noise.

Investors are advised to stay calm, avoid reactive decisions, and maintain diversified portfolios through ETFs or mutual funds for better stability during uncertainty.

Global hits:

Controversial: Trump suggests not all furloughed workers will get back pay.

Thoma Bravo founder Orlando Bravo sees AI company valuations “at a bubble,” comparing it to the dot-com era.

The New York Fed’s monthly Survey of Consumer Expectations found that fewer households expect to be better off a year from now.

News from Japan: Japanese workers saw real wages fall for the eighth straight month in August, with a double-digit decrease in one-off compensations on top of relentless inflation outpacing nominal pay growth. Also, business confidence in Japan’s auto sector has plunged, helping push a manufacturers’ sentiment index to its first decline in four months. Pressure from different sectors has also caused the Yen to drop to a 7-month low.

Reminder: Gold price reaches $4,000 an ounce for the first time ever as Ray Dalio says today is like the early 1970s and investors should hold more gold than usual.

Important: This week's Carlyle analysis reported only 17,000 new hires added to the economy. If confirmed by the BLS, this would mark the weakest month in five years, aside from March's -13,000 figure. However, Goldman Sachs data offers a brighter outlook, showing a +80,000 boost in September hirings.

Oracle Stock Dips Amid Nvidia Chip Concerns

Oracle's stock fell 3% following a report questioning the profitability of its Nvidia chip-based cloud business.

The report cited internal documents showing a 14% gross margin on $900 million in sales for the three months ending August, far below Oracle's overall 70% margin.

High Nvidia chip costs and aggressive AI chip rental pricing may challenge Oracle's cloud profitability. Despite this, Oracle reported a 359% surge in cloud contract backlogs in September and projects $144 billion in cloud infrastructure revenue by 2030, driven partly by its role in OpenAI's Stargate project, involving five large-scale AI data centers.

Interestingly, Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell said that demand for AI computing power is “tremendous.” However, he believes that “at some point there’ll be too many” AI data centers.

More importantly, Nvidia CEO thinks that Oracle will be ‘wonderfully profitable’ despite the low margin.

From Tesla: Tesla dropped 4.45% despite the EV giant announcing new, "more affordable" models: a $40,000 Model Y and a $38,000 Standard model.

Investors were unimpressed, as $40k remains steep in a market favoring used cars ($27k-$30k) and with the $7,500 U.S. tax credit gone.

Competitors like Nissan, Hyundai, Chevy, and Ford offer EVs under $40k, while Chinese brands like BYD sell models as low as $12,000 globally. This marks Tesla’s first product update since the 2023 Cybertruck, which sold only 50,000 units, trailing Rivian and Ford’s 58,000 EV trucks and SUVs in 2024.
